BELGRADE Dragan Djilas has called on the government coalition on Thursday "to display responsibility and tell the people the truth." The Belgrade mayor and leader of the opposition Democratic Party (DS) also urged the authorities "not wash their hands of the negotiations that had put Serbia in an uncomfortable position." Opposition leader: Don't wash hands off talks The government should come to the parliament and tell the truth, no matter what that is, if does not have the courage to assume responsibility, Djilas told a news conference. "Instead of presenting solutions and clear views to us, the prime minister is silent, the deputy prime minister moans and the president hides behind phone conversations with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin," Djilas remarked. The government stated after each round of the talks that Serbia was making progress, getting closer to a solution and that the opposition had nothing to worry about and nothing to ask, and today it is obvious that it was not true," he noted. If the idea is to give up on Serbia's EU integration, it should be stated clearly to both Europe and Serbia, because even after the current government, Serbia will still have a place in Europe, just like it had after Milosevic, Djilas pointed out. The Democratic Party, as a responsible party, will help Serbia out of the position the current government has put it in and it will do everything to find a solution that will ensure the survival and safety of the Serbs in Kosovo.
