BELGRADE Russia will accept any decision that Serbia makes as a result of the Kosovo dialogue, says Modest Kolerov, a first call advisor of the Russian Federation. Russia could define a special position on Kosovo only if Serbia called on the Federation to be a guarantor of the solution that has been reached, he said in Belgrade on Monday evening. "Russia will accept any decision of Serbia on Kosovo" Russia cannot act on the behalf of Serbia, and it will accept any decision that Serbia makes, Kolerov said at a lecture entitled “Foreign policy of modern Russia and Russians outside of Russia” organized by the Center for Russian Studies of the Philosophical Faculty in Belgrade, adding that expecting from Russia to act on the behalf of Serbia is not fair. However, he does not exclude the possibility that Russia could formulate its special stance on Kosovo along with the one that it has already stated publicly, but only in case Serbia calls on Russia to be a guarantor of the solution that has been reached, he said. Comparing the issues of Nagorno-Karabakh and Kosovo, Kolerov said that in Nagorno-Karabakh Russia is pursuing a neutral policy, and Russia's only request there is that war should not happen ever again, adding that he thinks that from a Russian perspective the best solution would be "cantonization and a kind of division of Kosovo." When it comes to Serbia's EU integration process, he said that unfortunately Serbia has no other alternative but the EU for the simple geographical reason - its position. When asked what Serbia can do in order not to be just a transit country in terms of the South Stream gas pipeline, Kolerov said that Serbia should meet the obligations that former president Boris Tadic agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin, "which are not being fulfilled at the moment."
