BELGRADE Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic has said that the sale of Fiat 500Ls at a discounted price will be financed "by Fiat and not the government". The Serbian government "only gave the company hiring incentives", he added. Cheaper 500Ls "financed by Fiat, not by government" "Fiat has committed itself to taking on a total of 1,400 new workers this year and next year, so they qualify for subsidies of EUR 10,000 per every job created," Dinkic told Belgrade-based daily Blic. According to Dinkic, it has been agreed that the money will be used to finance a EUR 3,000 discount on the fiat 500L, instead of going to the company. "All of this is in the agreement we signed and which the government approved at its last session," said Dinkic. He added that the complaints from car importers that this arrangement discriminates against them are invalid, because the government only provided incentives for new jobs. Dinkic and Fiat Automobili Srbija (FAS) Director General Antonio Cesare Ferrara signed Friday a protocol which will make it possible for the Serbian citizens to buy the fiat 500L at an affordable price of EUR 10,900.
