BELGRADE Nine years after anti-Serb violence in Kosovo, perpetrators have not been punished, properties have not been rebuilt and Serbs cannot return, Ivica Dacic warns. At a ceremony marking the ninth anniversary of the pogrom, the prime minister reiterated that 19 civilians were killed, 800 injured, 3,870 expelled and that 935 houses and 34 churches were destroyed. “State will not turn its back on Kosovo Serbs” “I wish something like this will never happen again and I want Serbia to protect security and interests of the Serbian people in Kosovo with its wise policy,” Dacic stressed. According to him, Serbia needs a realistic policy. “Today, we need to separate Kosovo in our idea, Kosovo in our mythology and Kosovo in our origins from what today exists as a reality in Kosovo and Metohija and to protect our people who live there,” the PM noted. He thanked all Serbs who stayed in Kosovo “after their leaders ran away”. “Serbia must never and will never turn its back on Serbs in Kosovo,” Dacic underscored and stressed that the government was doing everything to reach a fair solution that would allow Kosovo Serbs to decide on their lives and destiny.
