MT. KOPAONIK EU representative in Serbia Vincent Degert says the authorities in Belgrade and Pristina should make additional steps in order to make progress in the talks. Noting that the goal of the talks, which are mediated by the EU, is normalization of relations, Degert told reporters on Mt. Kopaonik, where he partakes in the 2013 Business Forum, that the progress should be made in the coming days. "Both sides should make additional steps" When asked whether pressure is exerted on Pristina, which is refusing Serbia's proposal on formation of the association of Serb municipalities which would have executive powers, Degert said that pressure is exerted on both sides to reach an agreement. He said that there is a certain number of issues which should be resolved, such as electric power industry, telecommunications, post office, and of course the problem of institutions in north Kosovo. Degert said that EU High Representative Catherine Ashton is actively involved in the negotiating process in order for the talks to be fruitful. He underlined that it is necessary to reach sustainable solutions and create proper surrounding for all people in Kosovo. This means that we have to have solutions which will be applicable, since it is sometimes easier to reach agreements than to implement them, Degert said. It is not that important whether the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina will be signed or not, but rather whether it is useful for both sides, Degert said.
