BELGRADE If the ruling coalition agrees that a government reshuffle is necessary, it should be done as soon as possible, Education Minister Zarko Obradovic says. He told daily Vecernje novosti that if a reshuffle was necessary, it would be good to do it as soon as possible, noting that waiting “would be a fertile ground for a negative atmopshere and speculations about who would be dismissed which would contribute to violation of credibility of the government and its members.”. “If necessary, reshuffle should be done as soon as possible” Obradovic denied that the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) was not interested in a possible replacement of certain cabinet members and stressed that SPS leader and PM Ivica Dacic had stated that a government reshuffle was “absolutely possible”. “Should the issue arise, we are ready to assess our participation in the government in order to see whether we have done a good job. I also mean individual ministers. Because, no matter how hard you work you can always do better and more,” the minister said but did not want to say which SPS minister could be replaced. When asked whether it bothered him that the First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic proposed the government reshuffle instead of a prime minister, Obradovic said that Vucic’s proposal was legitimate and logical because he led the party that had the largest number of ministers and MPs (the Serbian Progressive Party). He noted that a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks was very important for Serbia but that the government could not depend on it and that early elections should not be held if the country failed to get the date. “The issue of elections is raised by those who do not want a responsible state and national policy, combat against corruption and finding perpetrators for controversial privatizations to continue. Certain financial circles that do not like an organized system are in that group. And there is also the opposition whom the elections would suit but more for the sake of its homogenization than because of a good result,” Obradovic pointed out. However, he said that the SNS’ request to call early provincial elections in Vojvodina was logical because by-elections in three towns had shown that political mood in the province was changing.
