BELGRADE Deputy PM in charge of EU integrations Suzana Grubjesic has said that the dialogue with Pristina represented "a tight rope walk". However, the negotiations that resume on Monday in Brussels are, according to her, "still a great chance" for Serbia to get a date for the start of EU accession talks in June. Negotiations described as "tight rope walk" "The time is limited for reaching agreements, let alone implementing them. A difficult period is ahead although there have been no easy ones in the dialogue, technical or political. I expect that what is possible will be done - to reach some compromise, and compromise in politics is always a victory, not a defeat," said Grubjesic, and added: "On the one hand, you're trying to defend at least the minimum national and state interests, and on the other, you're opening the space to achieve a permanent and sustainable solution, a permanent agreement with the Kosovo Albanians. It's hard to balance, but it's a responsible job, and it is the job for responsible politicians." According to her, a failure to obtain a date for the start of negotiations to join the EU would "jeopardize the dynamics of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina - and everyone is aware of that". Asked whether the absence of a date would destabilize the government, Grubjesic said that she "does not expect anything dramatic, because a date itself is not a matter of life and death for Serbia". "If by any chance it happens that we do not get a date, or get a provisional date, which is a consolation prize, there will be no giving up." According to this official, "the absence of a specific agreement" is why Prime Minister Ivica Dacic decided not to go to the Serbian parliament to explain to MPs and the Committee for Kosovo and Metohija "what kind of deal has been reached".
