NEW YORK The UN Security Council (UNSC) will discuss UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's latest quarterly report on the situation in Kosovo in the second half of March. Tanjug has learnt that the exact date of the meeting will be known after the new round of the Brussels-based talks between Belgrade and Pristina, which starts on March 4. UNSC to hold session on Kosovo in second half of March The UNSC meeting was originally scheduled for February 22 but was postponed for March. The decision when to hold the new session will be made by Russia, which took over the UNSC presidency after consultations with other UNSC members. In his regular quarterly report on Kosovo, Ban underscored that “an essential step forward” was achieved by elevating the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to a high political level but called on the Kosovo authorities to deal decisively with any act of hostility, such as the incident that happened during the Orthodox Christmas celebration, when a number of Serbs were arrested by the Kosovo police and beaten for no apparent reason. The UN secretary general noted that while many difficult issues were still open, the talks' resumption was "a strong signal of commitment of both sides to peaceful dialogue and overcoming the burdens of the past conflict."
