BUJANOVAC Ethnic Albanian political leaders from southern Serbia put forward on Monday a series of demands to resolve the economic and political issues. Those will be forwarded to the Serbian government for consideration, Zoran Stankovic, chair of the Serbian Government's Coordination Body for Southern Serbia, told Tanjug on the same day. Ethnic Albanians' demands to be forwarded to govt. After six hours of talks with the political representatives of ethnic Albanians from southern Serbia, held at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission office in Bujanovac, Stankovic said that the demands are concerning daily life and work issues faced by people living in the region, the focus being on issues in close relation to economic and political problems. “It is a fact that a lot of activities related to the resolution of economic issues have been undertaken, but there is the remark that political issues were not being resolved in the way that they expected and under the terms the government accepted in a previous period,” said Stankovic. A central document that will contain details of Monday's discussion should be drafted Tuesday and then forwarded to the government and the competent ministries for consideration, he said. “All the requests are now placed on the table. We will give them a form and present before the government and ministries, and then define the dynamics of discussions regarding the proposed demands. This was a prep meeting for this kind of meetings in the future, at which we only verified their claims, and the dynamics of our response to their requests will be precisely defined later,” said Stankovic. The talks touched on collective freedoms and rights, use of language and national alphabet with special symbols, return of refugees to their homes, education, integration of ethnic Albanians in state institutions and economic improvement of southern Serbia. The meeting was also attended by South Serbia Municipal Coordinator at OSCE Eric Manton. A scene from Bujanovac in southern Serbia (Beta, file) Tanjug
