BELGRADE, KOSOVSKA MITROVICA The Constitutional Court has told Serb officials from northern Kosovo that it was working on their motion to appraise the legality of some government decisions. These regard the implementation of agreements reached in the EU-sponsored Kosovo dialogue. Constitutional Court "reviewing" Brussels agreements The court also announced that its work "had not been interrupted at the request of the Justice Ministry". The secretary of the court met with the officials and informed the court planned on working on those cases between January and March. "There has been no interruption to the work on the cases, so the Serbs from northern Kosovo expect the decision regarding their motion to be delivered very soon," lawyer of the association of northern Kosovo municipalities Goran Petronijevic told reporters. The municipalities want the court to halt the implementation of the government decisions because they would cause irreparable harm, he stated. Petronijevic criticized the court for not suspending the decisions temporarily until the final verdict. Besides the delegation of five officials that met with the secretary, there were several dozen Kosovo Serbs gathered outside the court. Protesters exited their workplaces at noon to show support to the Serbian negotiating team in Brussels in saving Serbian institutions in Kosovo. They held Serbian flags and signs which read "Institutions of Serbia, not Kosovo," "Hospital of Serbia, not Kosovo," and "We won't hand over Serbian institutions," among others. In northern Kosovska Mitrovica, workers at the hospital, the University, municipal administration, judiciary and others all supported the protest. The situation was similar in other towns in the north. Milan Jakovljevic, director of the hospital in Kosovska Mitrovica, said the workers were united and determined to remain part of Serbian institutions, and not the institutions of some Serb community in Kosovo. He noted that Serbian institutions are not parallel but the only legitimate ones in this area, and that the Serbs want them to keep functioning as they have been. The protesters supported the demand of representatives of local self-governments in northern Kosovo that the Constitutional Court of Serbia rule in the near future whether the agreements Belgrade and Pristina have reached to date are in accordance with the Constitution, and if not, have them annulled.
