BELGRADE A woman who was found injured next to her dead husband in a Belgrade apartment earlier this week has admitted to committing murder. The woman, who is a citizen of Ivory Coast, is still being treated for her injuries sustained as she attempted suicide. A judge who took her statement ordered Maric to be placed in detention for up to one month, once she has recovered. Higher Court spokeswoman Dusica Ristic said the suspect was a flight risk, and that the circumstances of the crime were aggravating. If found guilty, Sabina Maric could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison. The 30-year-old told investigators that she murdered her husband because he was planning to leave her and their two children in order to pursue his relationship with a Sudanese woman. Belgrade-based daily Blic is reporting that "once she realized what she had done, Sabina attempted to take her own life". The two small children were asleep in their room as the tragedy unfolded, and were unharmed. They are now in the care of the Social Services.
