BELGRADE EU High Representative in Kosovo Samuel Zbogar has condemned the latest wave of violence in Kosovo and desecration of Serb cemeteries. He stressed that it was “simply unbelievable that people have stooped so low to desecrate cemeteries”. EU rep condemns desecration of Serb cemeteries “The point of my message is that problems of the living must never be solved at the expense of the dead. We have all the conditions to talk, both within Kosovo and between Belgrade and Pristina. This is exactly why we need a dialogue, in order to solve issues,” Zbogar stressed. He noted that it was very important that “the vandalism has been condemned by the great majority of all residents in Kosovo, regardless of their ethnicity”, adding that he had called for a public debate “that will once and for all label such things as unacceptable and that will include all people of good will and reason”. Zbogar said that he met with representatives of Kosovo Serbs every day, both in north and south of the province, representatives of media and NGOs, returnees. He said that they usually asked him about better economic situation, local security, easier access to European funds and possibilities of studying and traveling. “We also talk about cut down woods, stolen cows, difficult life that many have but nobody has ever told me that I am ‘on Pristina’s side', because it simply is not true,“ he said. When asked how multiethnic Kosovo would be established bearing in mind that both living and dead Serbs had been targeted by Albanian extremists for the past 13 years, Zbogar said that all citizens should equal before laws and justice. “Multiethnic Kosovo for the EU is Kosovo in which all citizens will be equal before justice, this is why EULEX is here, this is why conditions for obtaining an EU candidate status are known, this is why long-term and medium-term priorities are known. To insist on these conditions is the best way for true changes and a better life in the future. Commenting on Russian FM Sergey Lavrov’s stance that the EU did not have a constructive position on the probe into the human organ trafficking in Kosovo and that the investigation was not making any progress, he said that the investigation was conducted professionally.
