DUBLIN Serbian Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated in Dublin on Thursday that Serbia's visa-free regime with the EU was "not under threat". He added that participants of an informal summit of EU ministers of justice and home affairs in Ireland assessed positively Serbia's efforts in the fight against bogus asylum seekers. "EU won't reimpose visas for Serbians" Dacic said that during the summit he conferred with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom and EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding. “There is a positive assessment of Serbia's efforts in the fight against illegal migrations and bogus asylum seekers, whose number reduced in many countries,” Dacic said. "We have managed to resolve this problem in terms of Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Sweden, where the number of bogus asylum seekers is now two times smaller than in the previous two years," Dacic said. “The only remaining problem is Germany, and I believe that after a change of the legislation, this problem will be soon resolved as well,” according to the prime minister. “This was a good opportunity to confer with ministers of the EU members states at a plenary session and in bilateral contacts, bearing in mind that it is possible that one of the topics of the talks in the coming months will be the introduction of a clause which would enable suspension of the visa liberalization for the countries which pose a problem to the EU,” Dacic said. “This is the first time after the achievement of the candidate status that Serbia is partaking in meetings of the Committee of the Interior Ministers together with other EU members states, and this is an opportunity for our voice to be heard and to equally participate in the realization of the political preparations for certain decisions within the EU,” he noted. “As familiar from the conclusions of the EU Council, there is a possibility for Serbia to get a date for the beginning of the accession talks during Ireland's EU presidency, and therefore the bilateral contacts and relations with the Republic of Ireland are very important,” Dacic stated in Dublin on Thursday. Dacic will later in the day depart for Brussels where for a meeting with Hashim Thaci, mediated by EU's Catherine Ashton. Cecilia Malmstrom, Ivica Dacic (Beta) Tanjug
