BELGRADE Serbia’s President Tomislav Nikolic says he is now more optimistic about the next round of the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina. He stressed that he was more optimistic because “negotiators will have to submit their report to parliament”. President “more optimistic about dialogue” The Serbian parliament adopted the Resolution on Kosovo late on Saturday. Nikolic said after the session that he was satisfied that the opposition and the ruling majority agreed on Kosovo “because a serious platform is behind the Resolution.” “This was a typical day in the Serbian parliament. We did not reach general consent but there is obviously a will of MPs to solve the issue. Serbia is getting a foundation to stand on in the talks with the interim institutions in Pristina and the EU,” the president told reporters. “Anybody who negotiates on behalf of the Republic of Serbia will have the Resolution in their hands and knowledge that they need to submit the report of the negotiations,” the president stressed. He added that “nobody will be able to make sudden decisions anymore because there is a document adopted by parliament now”. According to Nikolic, by supporting the Resolution the opposition realized that it has gotten an opportunity to control the ruling majority. He said that the platform was now available to the public and to “those on the other side of the negotiating table, which maybe is not the best thing, but nothing is lost in the end”. “It is good that Serbia knows that there is a serious platform behind the Resolution that actually limits the Resolution,” the Serbian president concluded.
