BEIJING President of the UN General Assembly Vuk Jeremic met on Thursday, during his first official visit to China, with members of the country's new leadership. The former Serbian foreign minister conferred with General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Jeremic meets with new Chinese leaders After the meeting, Jeremic told China Radio International that the main topics under discussion were international issues, above all the situation in Syria and the Middle East, as well as relations between the new governments in Belgrade and Beijing. "We also discussed bilateral issues, since China is currently going through a transition. A new generation of leaders has assumed key positions and I think it is essential that the new Chinese leadership establish the best possible relations with the government in Serbia, like it had with the previous government," said Jeremic. He expressed hope the partnership between Serbia and China would continue to grow and develop in the coming years. Jeremic is visiting Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese foreign minister. He told Tanjug earlier he would be visiting several world capitals in the coming period in his capacity as the UNGA president, but that it would also be a good opportunity to bring up some issues of importance to Serbia. The change of leadership in China took place at a Communist Party congress at the beginning of November, when Xi Jinping took over the office of general secretary from his predecessor Hu Jintao.
