Inflation to drop in mid-2013, NBS governor says

BELGRADE National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic has said that the inflation will begin to fall in the middle of 2013. According to her, the inflation will return to the target framework by the end of 2013. Inflation to drop in mid-2013, NBS governor says "The central bank is not targeting any concrete exchange rate, but it will not allow great oscillations, and if necessary it will moderately spend foreign currency reserves,” she told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) on Thursday. “We will not allow any huge oscillations of the exchange rate, and if needed we will spend a small amount of foreign currency reserves,” Tabakovic noted, adding that the NBS would continue to pursue the floating exchange rate policy. Pointing to the importance of coordination of the fiscal and monetary policy and exchange of accurate and reliable data, the governor said that she was very satisfied with the cooperation with the Serbian government. She said that the NBS was working on the resolution of problems of citizens, who had trouble repaying loans in cooperation with the Association of Serbian Banks and the associations of loan takers. Tabakovic underlined that the banks would have to resolve the problems and assume a part of the burden, as they could not be in the market only when the years were prosperous but also when they were not.
