President pledges govt. assistance to furniture maker During a ceremony in the company's headquarters to mark the 49th anniversary since the furniture maker was established, Nikolic underscored that the company needs to survive because of the strategic importance for the development of southern Serbia and the local economy as a whole. He underscored that SIMPO remains in the defense line of Serbia on the verge of crisis in the area inhabited by mixed population and it should stay there forever so as to make it possible for the people in this part of the country to live in unity. “Today SIMPO is facing a crisis, but who is not? The crisis is not your fault, you work excellently. The government can, should and will help SIMPO,” Nikolic said. He underscored that SIMPO's factories produce final products and that the company is not seeking funds but guarantees that money it had to borrow at favourable rates would be paid back so that it could continue doing business. Pointing out the great efforts of SIMPO President Dragan Tomic who has held the office as the president for 45 years now, Nikolic noted that many voiced criticisms regarding the times marked by public property and directors of companies which were part of public property. In contrast to such directors, privatisation brought individuals to the top positions in companies who then ruined them. “SIMPO belongs to you, you and your fathers helped make it and you will work there, and your children will work there,” Nikolic said addressing the employees and added that "everything can change but SIMPO must survive".
