BELGRADE Serbia should show at a UNSC session that the Hague Tribunal has lost its credibility and that it is guided by political, not legal motives, says Rasim Ljajic. The deputy PM told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that Belgrade needed to show that Serbia had fulfilled its obligations and that the Hague Tribunal had satisfied somebody’s personal interests and not justice with the last several rulings. “Serbia must show that Hague Tribunal has no credibility” “Now we are in a position to transparently and with arguments point to everything that the Hague Tribunal has done, to double standards it used, because so far we have had only the opportunity to defend ourselves,” Ljajic stressed. According to him, Serbia should present reasons it believes “that the Hague Tribunal is not a court that serves justice” and that contributed to the reconciliation process in the former Yugoslavia. He noted that he had unofficial information that other UN Security Council members would present their objections to the Tribunal’s work. The UN Security Council will today debate reports on the Hague Tribunal’s work and Serbia’s First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic will attend the session. Commenting on UN General Assembly President Vuk Jeremic’s decision to schedule a debate on the Hague Tribunal, Ljajic said “we should not expect spectacular results of the debate”. “We should not spread optimism without a realistic reason but in any case, the debate is useful,” he explained. When asked whether the acquittal of former commander of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Ramush Haradinaj would affect the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, he said that the verdicts had significantly worsened the atmosphere and that they did not contribute to the normalization of relations. “I do not see any difference between (Kosovo PM Hashim) Thaci and Ramush Haradinaj, we are fighting for our interests like this, which the public probably won’t accept, but I do not know what the alternative is,” Ljajic noted. Commenting on a protest of northern Kosovo Serbs, who blocked construction works necessary for the start of the implementation of the integrated crossings management at the Jarinje crossing on Tuesday, he said that one should be understanding when it came to the position of Serbs in Kosovo but stressed that a solution needed to be found in accordance with realistic abilities of the state and the negotiating team.
