LJUBLJANA A new wave of protests swept Slovenia on Monday evening. In Maribor, protesters clashed with the police, damaging the municipal building. Despite calls for peaceful protests, hooligans once again clashed with the police, which arrested more than 60 people. Injuries were reported, including among policemen. More clashes as Slovenia protests continue In addition to Maribor protests were also held in Ptuj, Ljubljana, Celje, Ravnah na Koroslkem, and in Trbovlje. The demonstration dubbed "Maribor's Third Uprising" demanded the resignation of the mayor, who still refuses to go away from this position. Despite calls to demonstrate peacefully, flares, stones and bottles were once again thrown at the police and the municipal building, while masked hooligans even fired "a few rockets" at a police helicopter, according to reports. It was quieter in Ljubljana, although two rallies were held - one in front of the Slovenian parliament, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Janez Jansa, and another in front of the municipality of Ljubljana, where demonstrators wanted the resignation of Mayor Zoran Jankovic. The police intervened in the Slovenian capital against a few people who were about to throw granite blocks ripped from street, but then fled. By the end of the protest in Ljubljana five persons were arrested, all minors, who were found in possession of sticks, knives and fireworks. According to local media, around 10,000 people gathered for the protest. In Celje the gathering proceeded mostly peacefully, but some incidents did occur, resulting in 15 persons being detained. In this town about 2,500 protesters gathered, still protesting against "all Slovenian politicians and all political options", calling them thieves, and demanding a reinstatement of the rule of law, and "stolen property". In other, smaller towns, there were no reports of clashes between the police and protesters. (Beta) B92 Beta Tanjug
