The head of the security services of Benghazi, Colonel Farag al-Dersi, was killed during the night in front of his house, news agencies reported.

"Three men opened fire, killing him, and then fled the scene,'' said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Libya Omar Al-Khadrawi, adding that it was unclear who was behind the murder, reported the Associated Press. Libya: Benghazi security chief shot dead

Unknown assailants fired three shots at Dersi in front of his front door and he died shortly after he was transferred to hospital, the AFP added.

Dersi was appointed chief of the security service of Benghazi shortly after the attack on the U.S. consulate there on September 11, when U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed.
