PRISTINA, THE HAGUE The Hague Tribunal will deliver a verdict in a case against former leader of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Ramush Haradinaj on November 29. A court ruling in the case against Haradinaj and another two ex-KLA commanders, Lahi Brahimaj and Idriz Balaj, will be published on the Tribunal’s official website, Pristina media have reported. Verdict for ex-KLA to be delivered on Nov. 29 This will be the second verdict for the three KLA commanders who are charged with crimes against Albanians, Serbs and Roma in the KLA’s illegal prison camp Jablanca in 1998. Haradinaj, Balaj and Brahimaj are accused of being a part of a joint criminal enterprise and crimes against the Kosovo Albanians, Serbs and Roma in the camp. The initial verdict in the case was delivered on April 3, 2008, finding Haradinaj and Balaj not guilty on all counts of the indictment while Brahimaj was sentenced to six years in prison. The prosecution appealed the verdict on May 1, 2008, and the Appeals Chamber ordered that Haradinaj, Baljaj, and Brahimaj be retried on six of the total of 37 counts. The prosecutor requested that all three men be sentenced to “at least 20 years in prison” in his closing argument while defense attorneys called for their acquittal. Haradinaj is under house arrest in his home in Pristina and he will be transferred to the Hague Tribunal detention unit ahead of the final ruling. Haradinaj’s Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has said it expects an acquittal and Haradinaj’s return to politics “because he is the only politician ready and capable of standing up to (Kosovo PM) Hashim Thaci”.
