BELGRADE Two pilot projects based on the integrated crossings management agreement will be implemented at the Jarinje and Merdare administrative crossings. This is according to Director of the Office for Expert and Operational Affairs in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Dejan Pavicevic Official: Pilot projects at two administrative crossings “Forming of the crossings will not resemble a border and it is not our intention to create borders with Kosovo for the sake of any interests and those will be checkpoints that will primarily allow us to establish clear control in order to fight against crime and other things easier,” he explained. The implementation of the two pilot projects was announced at a meeting between Serbian and Kosovo PMs Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in Brussels. Pavicevic said that the agreement on the integrated crossings management had been reached and that it needed to be implemented. “Unfortunately, we do not have any other option. I believe that a positive aspect can be found in everything,” he said. When asked whether the implementation of the agreement would be possible in northern Kosovo, bearing in mind that local Serbs are strongly against it, Pavicevic said that he completely understood and had sympathy for the northern Kosovo Serbs. “I know this is very difficult for them and we will talk to them and try to explain the whole situation and we hope that they will understand and have a positive position on it because this is not directed against them and it is not our intention to make borders with Kosovo for the sake of any interest,” he stressed. He noted that EULEX would have an executive role at all administrative crossings where the agreement on the integrated management would be implemented. “EULEX will in accordance with its executive authorities perform control of passengers and goods because Belgrade has insisted since the beginning on EULEX’s executive role,” Pavicevic said.
