BELGRADE Serbian parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic has said that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will next week discuss the ruling structure in the capital. He also requested on behalf of the SNS on Thursday that changes to the Belgrade city statute be made. Progressives to discuss ruling majority in Belgrade Commenting on Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) official Milan Krkobabic’s statement that the Progressives do not have a majority to change the ruling structure in Belgrade, Stefanovic said that one should wait for the Progressives’ decision and “see what can be done about it”. He told a press conference in front of the Belgrade city assembly that the SNS wanted to present concrete proposals to its partners. “We want it to be with arguments and concrete proposals for our partners, we do not want to change the ruling structure so someone could say that we only want to replace someone in power,” the SNS official stressed. He announced that the SNS would propose changes to the Belgrade city statute that would allow decentralization and higher authority of the city municipalities and forming of new municipalities in the capital. Nebojsa Stefanovic (Tanjug, file) LDP leader says Stefanovic “overstepped his authority” Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic believes that Stefanovic has overstepped his authority by holding a press conference in front of Belgrade city assembly and tarnished parliament’s reputation. Jovanovic said that the SNS official and parliament speaker had “attacked the city assembly” by turning disagreements in his own coalition into a public scandal. “Jovanovic is forgetting that he is not just an SNS official anymore and that he has become a parliament speaker in the meantime and that the position is banning him from acting like a party activist who would like to occupy local ruling structures,” he pointed out. If the SNS is planning to continue to terrorize citizens by causing instability, let them publicly suspend the Constitution and all the laws then, the LDP said in the release. “Let them pass a regulation that will abolish local self-governments and provincial autonomy and let them rule like a receiver on every step, from the Presidency to the government, Vojvodina, every town and municipality and the last local community,” Jovanovic said. According to him, this is an introduction into “wanton disrespect of the constitutional, legal and political order and an open message to citizens that their will is not important and that the authorities, in this case embodied in the parliament speaker, will not respect it”. LDP leader says Stefanović “overstepped his authority”

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Čedomir Jovanović believes that Stefanović has overstepped his authority by holding a press conference in front of Belgrade city assembly and tarnished parliament’s reputation.

Jovanović said that the SNS official and parliament speaker had “attacked the city assembly” by turning disagreements in his own coalition into a public scandal.

“Jovanović is forgetting that he is not just an SNS official anymore and that he has become a parliament speaker in the meantime and that the position is banning him from acting like a party activist who would like to occupy local ruling structures,” he pointed out.

If the SNS is planning to continue to terrorize citizens by causing instability, let them publicly suspend the Constitution and all the laws then, the LDP said in the release.

According to him, this is an introduction into “wanton disrespect of the constitutional, legal and political order and an open message to citizens that their will is not important and that the authorities, in this case embodied in the parliament speaker, will not respect it”.
