BELGRADE New Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Chepurin has stated that there is scope for development in the Russian-Serbian dialogue. Common history and roots do not only facilitate mutual understanding, but also bind us all to strengthen our relations, he told Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti. New Russian envoy stresses ties between two nations "I am pleased that I will represent Russia in the friendly Serbia. I will do my best to contribute to development of the Russian-Serbian relations through my work and to raise the level of dialogue between the two countries. I know that many Serbs feel a liking for my country and advocate expansion of mutual cooperation," Chepurin said. The daily reported that the change of the Russian ambassador to Belgrade and the Serbian diplomat to Moscow will not cause a change in the direction defined by the two countries' presidents during their last two meetings. Russian President Putin said several times, and he said it again this summer, that Russia will support Serbs in their fight to preserve their territory. This "guideline" was followed by previous Russian representatives to Serbia, and this will also be the case with Ambassador Chepurin, whose first day on duty in Belgrade took place on Tuesday, the newspaper said. Chepurin said that it is very important for an ambassador to feel sympathy for the country he works in, and to have friends and supporters there. Aleksandr Chepurin (Tanjug) Tanjug Vecernje novosti
