BELGRADE Leader of the opposition Democratic Party (DS) Boris Tadic announced late on Sunday that he would not run for that position again. Instead, he will "most likely continue on as the party's honorary leader", said reports. Boris Tadic decides not to run for party leader Tadic made the comments after a session of the DS main board in Belgrade. The main board accepted changes to the statute, Tadic told reporters, adding that he then informed the board that under the new circumstances, he would not submit his name in the party elections. He said all of the changes to the statute which he proposed were accepted - the authority of the presidency has been extended, electoral assemblies will be held every two years from now on, and the party leader's competencies have been changed. Noting that an internal affairs system would be instituted to prevent abuse, Tadic said that all statutory changes were aimed at changing society. "We want to change ourselves in order to change society," said Tadic and added that the Democrats would have new leaders and bodies on November 25, after which the party would be stronger and at the people's disposal. In the presidential and parliamentary elections in May, Tadic failed in his attempt to be elected Serbia's president for a third term, while his Democrats were forced to join the opposition.
