BELGRADE First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic said Sunday he would not rule out a possibility of getting a conditional date for the start of EU accession talks in December. “It is not realistic but I would not rule out a possibility of a conditional date in December, which would be an accomplishment and an unbelievable result,” he told Belgrade-based Prva TV. Conditional EU talks date “possible in December” Vucic stressed that a lot of things still needed to be done, that a strategy for combat against corruption needed to be adopted and that it had to be similar to those in Croatia and other countries in the region. He added that a new public procurement law, which has already been harmonized with the EU and the IMF, also needed to be adopted. “Numerous reform bills await us,” the first deputy PM said and explained that this also included the issue of Kosovo and combat against corruption. Vucic pointed out that the government had done much more than expected in the first 100 days. Commenting on the wiretapping affair, he said that someone was interested in his and President Tomislav Nikolic's whereabouts and not just their phone records and a list of people they talked to. He said that it was discovered that the president had been wiretapped two months ago and that it was stopped. “The wiretapping was stopped and President Nikolic’s phone is protected. Can some service do it without us knowing, with today’s devices I think it is possible but the president is aware of that,” Vucic stressed. When asked if the president was wiretapped by the police, he said that he did not want to talk about it. The deputy PM explained that he could not give any more details so he would not jeopardize the investigation. Aleksandar Vucic (Tanjug, file) Beta Tanjug
