BELGRADE Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has said that the wiretapping affair cannot destabilize the government because none of its members are involved in it. “The affair cannot shake the foundation of the government because nobody from the government is involved in it,” he told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) on Saturday evening. PM: Wiretapping affair won’t affect government President Tomislav Nikolic and First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic have confirmed that they have been wiretapped for some time. Dacic once again repeated that he as an interior minister had nothing to do with the wiretapping and that he “is not responsible for police operations”. He stressed earlier on Saturday that all responsible MUP officials would be sacked, arrested and put on trial. “If there were abuses in the police work, all those responsible will of course be held accountable. I have requested a report from the Police Directorate and the Internal Affairs and the prosecution are involved as well,” the prime minister and interior minister noted. He added that he had discussed the wiretapping affair with Vucic. “He expressed suspicion that someone has been taking his phone records, that they had a warrant and tried to get his phone records. I must say that this is not the first time, this happened in the previous years and I think that the main thing here is to have a clear regulations,” Dacic pointed out. According to him, the clear legislation will “prevent abuse, especially in cases like now when we do not have a paper trail”. “Such situation must not happen,” the prime minister underscored. Dacic said that he always used to be on the police’s side before but that he could not support something illegal. Commenting on the economy, he said that high public debt represented a problem and that it could not be reduced in a short period of time. He added that the government would do its best to secure the economic growth and a more stable domestic currency next year. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug, file) Beta Tanjug
