BELGRADE The Serbian parliament will enable smooth functioning of the state bodies in combat against corruption through anti-corruption bills. This is according to Serbian parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic. Speaker talks new anti-corruption laws, Kosovo He stressed that politicians would not be privileged. The speaker said that there were many who did not like the fact that large corruption affairs would be revealed, noting that Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic used to accuse some tycoons of monopoly and corruption but that he was “suddenly quiet” now. Announcing the law on the origin of assets, he said that German experts would be a part of the working group. “This is a very important bill that will allow us to see who obtained assets in the country, especially when it comes to controversial privatizations thanks to which certain people became millionaires over night,” Stefanovic pointed out. Commenting on a platform for Kosovo, he said that he was sure that the majority of parliamentary groups would accept solutions offered in the negotiations platform. “We will not recognize Kosovo’s independence,” he told daily Kurir. “This is a strategic issue for our country, to show that we are committed to the EU pathway,” the speaker was quoted as saying. Commenting on Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic’s statement that the Progressives and Socialists should solve the issue of Kosovo since they “created chaos in the province”, Stefanovic said that the DS had been a coalition partner of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) for four years. “He (Tadic) had two mandates and many opportunities to solve issues of utmost importance, from the economy to Kosovo. Not only that they did not solve anything, they ruined everything they touched,” the speaker concluded. Nebojsa Stefanovic (Tanjug, file) Tanjug
