BELGRADE Vojislav Kostunica says the fight against corruption and crime is undoubtedly one of the main characteristics the government's first 100 days in office. “However, the scandal with tapping of top state officials has brought the anti-corruption fight to a critical point,” leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and former prime minister stated told Tanjug. "Government's work marked by anti-corruption effort" He added that the circumstances and responsible persons have to be determined, while the state has to protect its legal order. “This is a great test for the fight against corruption and crime which has been conducted so far, and the right answers should be expected,” Kostunica said. As for economy, Kostunica said that the new government, which has inherited a difficult situation, has made certain small steps towards improvement. The DSS leader believes that such a condition is a product of a systemic mistake i.e. a consequence of signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) and its preparation so far. Unfortunately, the Serbian government has not found enough courage to void the agreement, and try to promote and recover the Serbian economy so that it could establish equal cooperation with all countries, including the EU member states, he said. As far as Kosovo and Metohija is concerned, Kostunica underlined that the Belgrade-Pristina talks will continue with a non-credible mediator such as the EU, and that therefore no progress can be made in terms of preservation of Serbia's integrity.
