BELGRADE The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) marked Saturday its patron saint's day, St. Petka (Saint Parascheva of the Balkans), for the first time as a ruling party. Its leader Aleksandar Vucic told the party members that "a difficult time and a heavy burden" ahead of them could only be carried with friends. “SNS wants to create modern, successful Serbia” "The scent of power must not overwhelm you," he stressed and added that the Progressives should make even greater friends of the current friends, but not consider as enemies those who led "a bestial campaign" against the party. Vucic said that the Progressives’ job was to create modern and successful Serbia, protect national interests, secure new jobs, be persistent in combat against crime and corruption and restore citizens’ belief that it was possible to have an honest government. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic wished the SNS a happy saint patron's day by phone from Skopje, where he is on an official visit. Nikolic told the Progressives that, on this day last year, he had promised this would be the last saint patron's day they were celebrating as opposition, and that they should now make a promise to celebrate it for a long time as the most responsible people in the country. The celebration of the SNS' saint patron's day was attended by members of the government, who were led by Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and leaders and representatives of all political parties, except for opposition Democratic Party (DS) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
