TITEL Members of the Serbian Army (VS), the Red Cross, and the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia held a joint exercise near Titel in northern Serbia on Thursday. The drill was held on the Begej and Tisa rivers and attended by top state and military officials. Joint rescue-focused drill held in northern Serbia It was meant to ascertain the level of preparedness in case of a state of emergency brought on by a natural catastrophe. Considering that the military has been called upon by the Republic Emergency Situations HQ to engage its resources in case of such developments, the drill also had the goal of improving coordination between different services. Any investment in equipment, technical devices and primarily human resources aimed at those who should act together in emergencies brought on by natural disasters has to be prepared in the best possible way because the actions we carry out today entail lower losses in the time to come, Vucic told reporters upon the conclusion of the joint exercise Reka 2012 in Titel. He noted that it is good that the government leadership had a chance to see the high level of training achieved by members of the Serbian Armed Forces, police, Gendarmerie, mountain rescue service, the Red Cross and the teams that performed the exercise, noting that the government has the task of providing high-quality technical equipment for them. The last few years show that we will be facing more and more emergency situations, fires and floods, and we also had an earthquake, Predrag Maric said and added that a serious country needs to invest in its capacities so as to defend its citizens.
