BELGRADE Serbia’s PM Ivica Dacic said on Wednesday that Serbia deserved a better future and wanted to play a part in solving problems around the world. The UN Day was marked in Belgrade on Wednesday with a performance entitled Reconnect: New Forms of Dialogue, which stressed the significance of new media in overcoming cultural differences. PM: Serbia is pillar of peace, stability in region "I want to Serbia to once again be a country that helps others, that sends its soldiers and police officers to peace missions on other continents, and for no one to have to help us anymore," Dacic said at the celebration, adding that Serbia was already one of the strongest pillars of peace and stability in the region. “The UN has mostly kept an objective approach to world crises, including the one in the former Yugoslavia,” he noted. “Serbia cooperates excellently with all UN agencies and is particularly glad to celebrate this day with one of its own at the head of the UN General Assembly,” Dacic remarked. The initiative Beyond 2015 is meant to allow people to influence humanity's development priorities through direct contact with the UN and Serbia is one of the 46 countries where the program will be implemented. “Serbia was chosen to be a part of the program because it is a source of stability and securiy in the region, thanks in part to Dacic,” UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia William Infante said. “This is the world's largest consulting process and Serbia will be one of the countries to decide on sustainable development in the entire world,” Infante pointed out.
