BELGRADE Gay Pride Parade organizers have announced that they will hold the parade indoors on October 6 in Belgrade. They also stated that they would file a complaint to the Constitutional Court due to the authorities’ decision to ban the holding of the gay parade that was supposed to be held on Saturday. Organizers decide to hold Pride Parade indoors According to announcements, the Pride Parade will begin at 10:00 CET at Belgrade Media Center. The organizers expect support and presence of many public figures. Organizing Committee member Goran Miletic has said that “the parade is not a circus that will disappear from the city” and stressed that LGBT representatives “will stay here for years to come”. “The authorities were wrong if they thought we would get tired and give up,” he noted. Miletic stressed that the Constitutional Court had declared unconstitutional the decision not to allow the holding of the 2009 Pride Parade. “Nobody was informed about enormous security risks, information we had said that police could have handled it,” he explained. Miletic also believes that a decision not to hold the Pride Parade represents a “capitulation of the state”. He wondered what other citizens could expect from the government that was unable to secure and protect constitutionally guaranteed rights of a single minority group. “What will happen with combat against corruption, issue of Kosovo and other things that the government has promised to citizens,” he underscored. The organizers thanked all the citizens who visited the controversial Ecco Homo exhibit on Wednesday.
