BELGRADE The Serbian government will set up a team for the direct negotiations with Pristina by mid-October at the latest, daily Vecernje novosti writes. According to the daily, the team should be led by top state officials. “Serbia’s negotiating team to be ready by mid-October” Serbia’s President Tomislav Nikolic will next week inform Prime Minister Ivica Dacic about details of his talks with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. The daily writes that Nikolic’s associates will intensify their work on the state platform for the southern province. Since the Serbian president offered the dialogue at the highest possible level, it is expected that top state officials will sit at the negotiating table to discuss the burning Kosovo issue. They are also expected to defend the “red lines” that will certainly be determined in the plan for Kosovo, Vecernje novosti writes. According to the daily, there are two possible scenarios when it comes to the members of the negotiating team. First, that the PM and president head the team and the second that the prime minister leads the team while the state strategy is prepared in cooperation with the president. The daily says that Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic, Office for Kosovo Director Aleksandar Vulin, president’s advisor Marko Djuric and representatives of the Kosovo Serbs could also be a part of the negotiating team. The daily writes that Nikolić’s associates will intensify their work on the state platform for the southern province.
