NEW YORK Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic met on Friday in New York with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the MFA in Belgrade has announced. The meeting was held "at the headquarters of Kissinger's consultancy", it has been reported. FM meets with former U.S. secretary of state The former U.S. official on the occasion "spoke in favor of the strengthening of relations between the U.S. and Serbia", and "expressed his readiness to contribute to this goal". The meeting also saw an "exchange views on the current position of Serbia in Europe and its future", said the release, and added that Kissinger spoke "in an inspired manner" about Serbian history and heroism of Serbs in the world wars. According to this, he also stated that "a lack of understanding or knowledge has led to some bad decisions on the part of the international community, particularly with regard to Kosovo". Kissinger was U.S. president's national security adviser from 1969 until 1975, and his country's chief of diplomacy from 1973 until 1977, during the mandates of two Republican Party presidents.
