NEW YORK Austrian FM Michael Spindelegger stated after a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Ivan Mrkic that Austria did not expect that Serbia would recognize Kosovo. He stressed that Austria instead expected daily issues to be resolved so that Serbs and ethnic Albanians could live together. “Austria does not expect Belgrade to recognize Kosovo” Spindelegger said that he had an impression that the new Serbian government was very serious in its intention to make results in terms of the Kosovo issue. “Serbia has asked help from Austria in view of the Kosovo issue and on its EU pathway,” Spindelegger told reporters after a meeting with Mrkic on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, Austrian news agency APA reports. “We can do a lot in this respect. Austria is a country which has made special efforts to bring Serbia closer to Europe,” the Austrian official said. Commenting on the idea of Kosovo partition, Spindelegger said that the issue of new borders was not on the agenda. “The borders are determined and it is now important to find a solution within these borders which would be would be acceptable for both peoples,” he underlined.
