BELGRADE The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) believes that a gay Pride Parade, scheduled for October 6 in Belgrade, should not be held. “The DSS’ position is the same as previous years – that such manifestations should not be held in the streets. The gay parade should be cancelled because the issue of sexual orientation is a private matter and it should stay that way,” DSS Spokesman Petar Petkovic told a press conference. Opposition DSS against holding of Pride Parade He added that Serbia should focus on the most important issues such as how to pull the country out of the difficult economic, social and political situation instead of “making up new problems”. Commenting on European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur Jelko Kacin’s statement that it was necessary to change the Serbian Constitution, Petkovic said that the statement represented political violence and that the state of Serbia needed to react to such statements. “It is completely clear that Kacin means that a preamble that says that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia should be taken out of the Constitution,” he explained. The DSS official added that Kacin could only request the change of the Slovenian Constitution because he was a Slovenian citizen. Petar Petkovic (FoNet, file) Beta
