Thursday's session of the Serbian government is announced to discuss closure and merger of certain state agencies and funds aimed at increasing budget savings.

BELGRADE Thursday's session of the Serbian government is announced to discuss closure and merger of certain state agencies and funds aimed at increasing budget savings. According to an agreement reached earlier in the government, competent ministries were due to submit concrete proposals for closure of unnecessary institutions during the previous week. Government to discuss closure of agencies, funds Serbian Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said after the government's session last week that around thirty agencies and funds could be easily shut down. According to an analysis by the Fiscal Council, the Serbian budget in 2013 could have an inflow of about RSD 15bn if the government closed certain agencies as planned, while at the same time independent revenues of remaining agencies and other state bodies could be directed to the budget. At the moment, the public sector comprises 156 state-owned bodies, whose revenues in 2012 amounted to nearly RSD 100bn, while expenditures stood at RSD 85bn. Serbian Finance and Economy Minister Mlađan Dinkić said after the government's session last week that around thirty agencies and funds could be easily shut down.

According to an analysis by the Fiscal Council, the Serbian budget in 2013 could have an inflow of about RSD 15bn if the government closed certain agencies as planned, while at the same time independent revenues of remaining agencies and other state bodies could be directed to the budget.

At the moment, the public sector comprises 156 state-owned bodies, whose revenues in 2012 amounted to nearly RSD 100bn, while expenditures stood at RSD 85bn.

These institutions employ a total of 36,000 people.
