There were around 200 Serbian citizens in Syria before the evacuation started. “Most of them still have not decided to come to Serbia, bearing in mind that we are talking about mixed marriages. Several dozens of our citizens, with whom we are in contact, stayed in Aleppo, where there is fighting and where it was necessary to evacuate our citizens,” Interior Ministry’s Dragan Markovic told reporters. According to him, if the remaining Serbians decide to come to Serbia, the ministries will organize another flight from Damascus. He said that the Foreign Ministry had been urging Serbian citizens through the Serbian Embassy in Damascus to leave Syria since March but that they had only become interested in leaving the country in the previous ten days.
