NOVI SAD Democratic Party (DS) official Bojan Pajtic says that conflicts in the party could lead to a rift. He added, however, that he did not see a serious intention to break up the party. DS official warns of possible rift in party “Such possibility always exists. We will see. The DS always came up stronger from the challenges it was facing. I do not see some serious intent inside the party to break it up,” Pajtic told daily Vecernje novosti. When asked whether there was a possibility that DS leader Boris Tadic will resign due to his defeat in the presidential election, he said that the DS leader should not give up because of it. “Besides, didn’t Tomislav Nikolic lose the elections several times but remained a leader of his party and now he is a president of Serbia,” the DS deputy leader pointed out. He said that he could not say that anyone in the party had anything against his “convincing victory” in Vojvodina. “It is logical that for somebody who achieves such an election result to have good reputation in their party,” Pajtic was quoted as saying. He said that the Constitutional Court of Serbia’s decision on the jurisdiction of Vojvodina was final and that he would not file an appeal. “But we will propose some measures in the fall aimed at establishing a stable cooperation between the republic and provincial administration. If we keep exhausting ourselves in conflicts, then we will be unsuccessful together and the Vojvodina government certainly does not want that,” the DS official said. When asked whether Vojvodina’s office in Brussels will continue to work despite the decision of the Constitutional Court, Pajtic said that “the idea that only Vojvodina cannot fight for those funds is, to put it mildly, unfair”.
