BELGRADE Serbian parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic has scheduled a special session for Thursday, July 26, when the new government will be elected. The new government will first be elected at the session and the prime minister and government members will then take an oath. Parliament to elect new government on Thursday The new Serbian government will be led by Prime Minister Ivica Dacic (SPS). The Serb Progressive Party (SNS) and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) held their Main Board sessions on Sunday and announced the names of their candidates for ministerial positions. The newly formed majority counts on the support of more than 140 MPs - while it needs at least 126 out of 250 votes. According to a coalition agreement signed earlier this month by the coalitions led by the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) and the Socialist Party of Serbia, and the United Regions of Serbia (URS), their government's main goals will be the stepping up European integration, economic stability, fight against corruption and crime and efforts to improve social justice. According to the bill on ministries, which should be adopted by Thursday afternoon, the government will have 17 ministries and four offices for dealing with important issues, namely Kosovo, human and minority rights, churches and religious communities and the diaspora.
