KOSOVSKA MITROVICA Kosovska Mitrovica District chief Radenko Nedeljkovic stated on Tuesday that there were no parallel security structures in northern Kosovo. Reacting to speculation about the presence of a number of members of the Serbian security forces in northern Kosovo, Nedeljkovic told Tanjug that only former employees of the Serbian Interior Ministry are present in the northern Kosovo since they decided to stay there with their families as their service ended. Official rejects claims about "parallel structures" He explained that these individuals have no police authorities and that they are not wearing uniforms, nor do they have official IDs and weapons which are all characteristics of a police officer. Nedeljkovic underscored that this is another psychological and propaganda war against Serbs and other non-Albanians. "I am under the impression that somebody is trying to displace the population from northern Kosovo-Metohija and impose the thesis that there are parallel security structures in the province which are allegedly jeopardising peace and stability," Nedeljkovic said. "I claim that there are no parallel security structures in northern Kosovo, unless somebody is referring to a few members of the Serbian Interior Ministry who are currently working in the Kosovo police," Nedeljkovic said. These individuals are engaged in the Kosovo police service on grounds of the agreement signed between UNMIK administrators and the head of the Coordination Centers for Kosovo-Metohija, he said. Nedeljkovic believes that the international community and major forces should primarily see what is really going on in Kosovo and how human rights are being violated, what is happening to Serbian property and Serbs, and where the investigation into the cases of missing and kidnapped persons in the province is headed. Reflecting on the existence of court structures in northern Kosovo, Nedeljkovic pointed out that these are not parallel structures and that judges are giving their contribution to the preservation of peace and rule of law.
