LEPOSAVIC The only mayor in the four northern, Serb municipalities in Kosovo that hailed from the Democratic Party (DS) is out of office, said reports on Wednesday. Leposavic's now former Mayor Branko Ninic has been replaced by Dragisa Vasic of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS). Sole DS mayor in northern Kosovo replaced by SNS official The Progressives were able to take over after councilors from the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) withdrew their support for the DS - with whom they were until today allied in a coalition. The move to sack the mayor and the rest of the municipal leadership was also supported by the Serb Radicals (SRS), New Serbia, the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and the Movement of Socialists. The councilors also made a number of other new appointments, including in local public companies. Assembly members from the ranks of the Democratic Party walked out of the hall where the extraordinary session was being held as soon as the first item on the agenda - the political and security situation in the town - had been concluded. Previously, former Mayor Ninic said the party would make "constructive opposition" and would "continue to work for the benefit of the citizens".
