United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Belgrade on July 23, where he will meet with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic. This is according to a report on Monday in the Belgrade newspaper Vecernje Novosti. "Ban Ki-moon to visit Belgrade on July 23" The daily quoted unofficial confirmation from the Serbian president's office that the UN Secretary-General will meet with Nikolic on July 23. The Serbian capital is expected to be one of the stops on his Western Balkans tour which kicks off July 19. While in the Serbian capital, Ban is also expected to confer with Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic who was recently elected president of the UN General Assembly. The daily notes this will be the first visit of a UN secretary-general to Serbia since the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. Nikolic on Tuesday commented on the visit to say that Ban wished to travel to Kosovo, while Kosovo "is not a member of the UN". "Serbia is still considering how to respond to the challenge of the visit to Kosovo. Now all of Serbia should stand and he must declare himself about whether he was going there to visit UN representatives, or to Kosovo as an independent state," said the president, and added: "We will have to have a unanimous stand on that, and work on solving that problem.
