The election silence will start at midnight Thursday, May 17, and remain in effect until polls close at 20:00 CET on Sunday. Candidates have three days left to campaign Election commission (RIK) spokesman Miodrag Petrovic said on Tuesday that the silence would begin three days prior to the election, at midnight on hursday. In this period, there is a ban on campaigning in the media, public rallies and publishing election results estimates. The guidebook for organizing elections stipulates that symbols of candidates, political parties, coalitions, citizen groups and other promotional material cannot be posted at or within 50 meters of polling stations. Since no candidate secured the needed majority in the first round, two candidates will compete in the runoff - Boris Tadic (DS) and Tomislav Nikolic (SNS). Tadic will be listed first on ballot papers, Nikolic second. A total of 6,803,863 ballots have been printed. According to the final results of the first election round, Tadic won 25.31 percent or 989,454 votes, while Nikolic received 25.05 percent or 979,236 votes. Under the Law on the Election of the President, the winner in the second round is the candidate receiving most votes, and in the case of a tie, a new vote will be held within 15 days. The president's term starts when he is sworn in before the Serbian parliament and lasts five years. Tanjug
