Democratic Party (DS) presidential candidate Boris Tadic has stated that the basic idea of the announced protests is to jeopardize legitimacy of the elections. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) announced on Saturday that it would hold protest rallies over the alleged election fraud. Tadic: Protests may jeopardize legitimacy of elections Tadic added that the protests were also aimed at humiliating Serbia in the eyes of the international community. He said on Sunday that the current atmosphere was Serbia was not contributing to its further development and that the country’s security was therefore threatened. “If we from Serbia are sending an image of a country which lacks order, in which institutions do not solve problems and we are going back to an atmosphere in which everything is solved with violence, that is very bad. No investor will come to such country, just like nobody want to go into a house where people are fighting,” he noted. Tadic said that such behavior was irresponsible and uncivilized because “you cannot just go and declare an election fraud if you are not satisfied with the election results”. “It does not exist anywhere and it is a direct violation of the political culture. The situation is dangerous and I call for peace and stability,” he stressed. When asked whether the announced SNS protests could jeopardize the elections, the DS leader said that they could if violence broke out. “We have international observers. The competent institutions are analyzing whether there have been any irregularities and all parties have their representatives who are equally taking part in the commissions,” he explained. Tadic added that Serbia “has become a champion of foreign investments, so much that the Italian labor minister said that the country needs to change the law so not all investments would go to Serbia”. According to him, the protests would only make investors “skip” Serbia. Boris Tadic Beta
