Montenegro’s President Filip Vujanovic has cancelled his participation in a summit in Yalta due to treatment of jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko. The Summit of Central European Heads of State will be held on May 11-12 in Yalta. Montenegrin president to boycott Ukraine summit Vujanovic believes that the Ukrainian authorities’ treatment of jailed Tymoshenko represents violation of human rights, his office has stated. The Montenegrin president has this way joined several European presidents who have already decided not to attend the Yalta summit due to Ukraine’s treatment of Tymoshenko. Vujanovic’s office added in the release that the president respects Montenegro and Ukraine’s friendly relations but that his cancellation is motivated by a desire to fully respect the former Ukrainian prime minister’s rights.
