Foreign Minister and ruling DS party official Vuk Jeremic stated that Belgrade has to respect the agreements reached in the dialogue with Pristina. Statements such as the one made by leader of the Serb Progressive Party) Tomislav Nikolic, who said that he is not bound by such agreements, send a bad signal to the international community which can entail far-reaching consequences for the further process of negotiations and Serbia's reputation itself, Jeremic said told a Cacak-based TV outlet. FM revisits opposition leader's Kosovo statement Government officials and Jeremic himself already criticized the statement, made as Nikolic was campaigning in northern Kosovo ahead of the May 6 elections. Speaking about the country's international standing, Jeremic said that Serbia will not become a part of the EU tomorrow because this does not depend on the country alone, but Serbia should not remain isolated and it needs to accept European laws and standards as soon as possible. Jeremic stated that Serbia maintains exceptionally close political and economic relations with Russia as a country which fully supports Serbia in the UN Security Council. On the basis of good political relations and the agreement on strategic partnership, Serbia's economic cooperation with China is improving, which is important since China is a big country which now constitutes the strongest global investor, Jeremic stated. He noted that this is a very difficult moment and that he found out that there is no place in the world that is not hit by the financial crisis. Many economies deteriorated but Serbia's economy recorded a sharper drop than the majority of other countries, Jeremic underscored and added that Serbia needs to show how reliable and predictable partner it can be, which is the condition on which funds for investments could be withdrawn from the sources.
