Committee favors scrapping "all agro budget decrees"
The Parliament Committee on Agriculture has decided to recommend that the government abolish all agriculture budget-related decrees it adopted this year.

The Parliament Committee on Agriculture has decided to recommend that the government abolish all agriculture budget-related decrees it adopted this year. Committee members from both ruling and opposition parties voted in favor of this decision. Committee favors scrapping "all agro budget decrees" The committee met in Belgrade on Tuesday to also support demands of some dissatisfied farmers, who protested against new regulation that is providing state subsidies based on crop yield, instead of size of land. The parliamentary body also decided to forward the farmers' suggestions to the president, as well as the prime minister and the minister of agriculture. The protesting farmers had their representatives attend the session today, and once again charged that changes to the subsidy policy favored the food processing industry, and worked to their disadvantage. They also expressed fears that prices of grains and oilseeds paid to them would be reduced in the amount of the value of premiums. Assistant Agriculture Minister Milos Milovanovic also attended the meeting to defend the ministry's position, saying that the new subsidy policy was designed to enable for increased agricultural production, and growing capacities of the country's processing and food industries.
