The opposition SNS says it will insist on revisions of controversial privatizations - "in order to remove the hurdles from the path of further EU integrations". Party official Zorana Mihajlovic said in a statement that the ruling Democrats (DS) had led "a catastrophic economic policy" that not only created news obstacles on Serbia's "road toward Europe", but also ravaged the country's economy to such a degree that it would now take "at least 30 years" for it to return to the the 1989 level. Progressives promise revisions of privatizations Should they take over after the elections, the Progressives (SNS), she continued, will conduct "a responsible economic and social policy". "We will secure Serbia's even development, we will create a favorable business climate for new investments and create jobs. That will be our priority from day one (in office), not just during the campaign," Mihajlovic stated. The issue of privatizations was also addressed by Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic - whose Socialists (SPS) were in opposition from 2000 until 2008. On Monday, he said the process was "thieving and pillaging" in nature, and that he "did not wish to take responsibility for that". "I did not take part in the pillaging and thieving privatizations of these companies. A third of all privatizations has been ruled null and void. The law (on privatization) was adopted in early 2000, and we were the only party that voted against," said Dacic. Beta
